Appistry Fabric Keeper service stuck in "Starting" state

I've downloaded version 3.8.1.3 for windows and have installed this on my Vista SP1 machine. All firewalls and router security has been disabled. Whenever I try any command (i.e. fabric_ctl -d 239.255.0.1:30000 -u fabric-admin/fabric-admin query all) or any other fabric_ctl command, I get a "failed to locate Fabric". If I look at the running services it shows "Appistry System Service" started and "Appistry Fabric Keeper" as "starting".

Any ideas on why the keeper won't start?

Thanks!

There are a few things to check. I will state the easiest ones to check first even though they are the less likely culprits:

  1. Are you installing with a admin account?
  2. Did you reboot after install?
  3. This is a 32 bit Vista Machine, correct?
  4. Does your box have a valid IP address?
  5. This is the most likely issue. Your network may not allow MCAST.

    To check this:

    • Stop the Appistry Worker Manager service in the service control manager. (I know you said it wasn't running, but I wanted to make sure in case something changed.)
    • Stop the Appistry Fabric Keeper service. If it is hung, you may need to set it to manual, and reboot your box in order to be sure that it is completely stopped.
    • Start a log_monitor.
      log_monitor 239.255.0.1
    • Start just the Appistry Fabric Keeper service through the service control manager(It normally would start the other services for you.)
    • Wait for a minute and see if you receive traffic in the log_monitor. You should at least see something that tells you that the fabric keeper is attempting to start. If not, it looks like something is blocking it. Do you see anything at this point?

If you are unable to locate the issue, it is possible for me to send you a simple test tool that will send an MCAST message out to see if it is possible. We will cross that bridge if we come to it.

If that doesn't work, what type of router do you have?
