Fedora Core Support

Hi,

We are looking to test and use Appistry, but would like to test it in a Fedora setting before putting it into production under Redhat. Unfortunately, Redhat Enterprise 5, is equivalent to FC 6, which you can't find any more. Any thoughts on getting this running on a later version of FC?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi,

Sorry, meant to post earlier today. We are looking at FC 10, and will get back to you ASAP.

Thanks,

Guerry

We attempted to install all of the linux Fabric installs on FC10, but we receive dependency errors. You probably have experienced them already. The dependency errors are occurring because the crypto libraries are different on FC10 than rhel4,5, and Suse10.

That being said, we are still looking into options.

I ran into similar issues when trying to get the Fabric running under Ubuntu. I was able to fix it with a few symlinks. I wrote up my experiences here: http://www.appistry.com/developers/forums/content/other-linux-distros. They may help in getting it running under Fedora.

Sorry if this is obvious but another thing to consider if the goal is simply to use a free RHEL-like Linux is CentOS.

Any updates from anyone on Fedora installations? Any thoughts on resolving dependencies would be useful.

Thanks,
Tom

I just wanted to post an update here in case any other viewers are interested.

Mrbahr was contacted offline. They were able to use CentOS and "it worked great."

Agreed. We downloaded CentOS 5.2, installed it and the fabric and it came up without issue. I would recommend it as an alternative to Fedora Core. Even though we were able to get it running on FC (sort of), there were issues. Therefore, anyone looking to eval or deploy on a "free" OS, CentOS may be your option. Thanks to Appistry for supporting CentOS.
