Appistry and Partners Showcase Cloud-Enabled “Big Data” Solutions at GEOINT 2010

Cloud MapReduce by Accenture and Appistry Enables Next Level of High-Performance Intelligence Analysis

Private Storage Cloud Solution by Appistry and Dell Delivers Integrated Solution for Large-Scale Data Storage and Processing

NEW ORLEANS, November 2, 2010 – Appistry and partners Accenture and Dell today unveiled new solutions designed to allow customers to more quickly, easily and cost-effectively store and process very large data volumes, also known as “big data.” The solutions, both based on Appistry’s flagship CloudIQ Platform, will be showcased at this year’s GEOINT 2010 Symposium, November 1-4 in New Orleans.

Cloud MapReduce by Accenture and Appistry enables real-time intelligence analysis and data dissemination for the intelligence and defense communities.  “MapReduce” refers to a software programming framework popularized by web giants, like Google and Yahoo, for large-scale data processing. By offering MapReduce in a private cloud environment, Accenture and Appistry can provide military customers with a secure, scalable and on-demand architecture to support the collection, analysis and dissemination of intelligence.

The Private Storage Cloud solution by Appistry and Dell couples Appistry’s CloudIQ Storage software with Dell infrastructure to deliver a complete solution for secure, on-premises cloud storage and application execution. The Private Storage Cloud solution features a dense, energy-efficient design that packs a tremendous amount of processing and storage capacity into a small footprint, and can easily scale in capacity from terabytes to multiple petabytes. Furthermore, the solution can be deployed across several data centers to ensure disaster recovery (DR) and continuity of operations (COOP).

“At today’s growth rates, storage costs will soon consume entire agency IT budgets, and the amount of data to be processed will hopelessly outstrip processing capabilities. A new approach to storage and processing is needed that replaces the monolithic ‘big iron’ models of yesterday with the agile, cloud-based solutions of tomorrow,” said Kevin Haar, Appistry chief executive officer. “The Private Storage Cloud solution we’ve launched with Dell, and the Cloud MapReduce offering we’ve launched with Accenture, both enable this new world of highly-flexible, highly-scalable and highly cost-effective IT, and both are key enablers of GEOINT 3.0, the theme of this year’s GEOINT Symposium.”

Cloud MapReduce will be demonstrated at the Accenture booth, number 560, at GEOINT. The Appistry/Dell Private Storage Cloud solution will be on display at the Appistry booth, number 843. For additional information on these solutions, please visit http://www.appistry.com/go/geoint2010.

The GEOINT Symposium is the premier event of the defense, intelligence and homeland security communities. The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation has sponsored the GEOINT Symposium since 2003 and is the only organization dedicated to promoting geospatial intelligence tradecraft and building a stronger GEOINT community across industry, academia, government, professional organizations and individual stakeholders.
