Appistry Showcases Geospatial Cloud Leadership at GEOINT 2009
New Offerings, Partnerships and Demonstrations Illustrate How the Company is Unlocking the Power of Private and Public Cloud Computing for the Geospatial Intelligence Community
SAN ANTONIO, October 19, 2009 – Over the past 12 months, cloud computing has taken center stage as a key enabler to deliver scalable geospatial intelligence solutions. To address the increased demand for cloud-based geospatial solutions, Appistry, which offers the leading cloud platform for GEOINT applications, today announced a new offering and partnership, as well as demonstrations of its platform's capabilities to be shown at the GEOINT 2009 Symposium being held October 19-21 in San Antonio, TX.
New Partnership and Offering
Appistry and NJVC, one of the largest information technology solutions providers supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, announced a joint cloud computing solution addressing the unique security requirements of the intelligence and defense communities. The joint solution allows intelligence and defense enterprises to more easily overcome the challenges associated with delivering mission-critical applications via legacy data center architectures. The two companies are making a recently published white paper on the joint solution available for free download and at each company’s booth at GEOINT (Appistry booth #749, NJVC booth #855).
Cloud-based GEOINT Demonstrations
At Appistry's GEOINT 2009 booth:
- Next Century, a provider of national security solutions to government customers, will demonstrate its use of Appistry CloudIQ Platform to drive software that enables computers to distinguish, within geospatial imagery, items of interest to national security -- a task that until now was only achievable by the human eye. The cloud-based version of its application runs on hundreds of Appistry-powered virtual servers in the Amazon cloud, yielding results in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost as before.
- NJVC and Appistry will demonstrate the use of their joint secure cloud offering for the defense and intelligence communities.
- Appistry will demonstrate how Appistry CloudIQ Platform is used to scale COTS software by AGI, which assists government and commercial customers in the prevention of satellite collisions. The Appistry-powered demonstration deploys the AGI code across a local cloud to distribute the volume and complexity of AGI’s software calculations; meeting its applications’ demands for intense processing power; and accelerating the availability of results.
- Also on demonstration will be Appistry CloudIQ Platform enabling a cloud-enabled deployment of Lucene, the popular open-source search engine and Local Lucene, which adds geographical search capabilities. This demonstration will show Lucene-based text and geographic searches running in a cloud; the automatic distribution of the Lucene index across many machines, and allowing the scale necessary to support massive numbers of simultaneous searches; and the elimination of the centralized index as a single point of failure.
"Over the course of the past year, we've seen a continual rise in demand from the geospatial community for a way to cloud-enable their applications," said Sam Charrington, VP of product management and marketing, Appistry. "This is something our CloudIQ Platform does remarkably well. We're using our presence at GEOINT to demonstrate the success our customers have had using the platform to unlock the power of the cloud for geospatial intelligence."
