GeoEye Wins Prestigious InfoWorld 100 Award for Appistry EAF Deployment
Appistry Enterprise Application Fabric Simplifies Delivery of Next-Generation Geospatial Intelligence Applications
ST. LOUIS, MO - November 26, 2007 - Appistry announced today that one of its customers, Dulles, Va.-based GeoEye (Nasdaq: GEOY), has been honored with an InfoWorld 100 Award for its innovative use of Appistry Enterprise Application Fabric (EAF) as the platform for its geospatial intelligence applications. The InfoWorld 100 is one of the most exclusive accolades in the IT industry and recognizes 100 IT projects that have made the best use of technology in pursuit of business goals. GeoEye worked with Appistry to implement a scalable and cost-effective distributed computing platform for its high-volume image processing applications.
GeoEye is a leading provider of satellite imagery to the U.S. military and intelligence community. The company's satellites generate in excess of 5 terabytes of raw imagery data each day, which must be processed in a timely manner to its customers' specifications. In April 2008 the company will launch GeoEye-1, the world's highest resolution and most accurate commercial imaging satellite. As a result, GeoEye needed to accommodate a spike in the volume of image data its applications must process. At the same time, it needed to ensure highly economical operations and the timely delivery of new functionality.
GeoEye deployed Appistry EAF to scale-out and virtualize its image processing applications across more than 50 standards-based servers running Linux. GeoEye was able to focus on honing its image processing algorithms, while the Appistry platform ensured the ability to process each image in the 6-minute window required by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and other customers.
"We're extremely honored to be recognized by InfoWorld for the innovative work we're doing on the Appistry platform," said Ray Helmering, vice president of product engineering for GeoEye. "What's most exciting for us is the fact that our engineers can focus on image processing and let the Appistry fabric take care providing scalability and ensuring everything gets done. This helps us get new products out the door faster and meet our customers' increasing demand for new offerings."
"Ray and his team at GeoEye are amazing, so it's no surprise that they've been selected to receive this award," said Sam Charrington, vice president of product management and marketing for Appistry. "They've been able to accomplish things that weren't previously possible in their industry, and we're thrilled to have had a role in helping them. We expect this award to be one of many more to come."
